ATTENTION:
THE COMMON ROAD TO POETRY AND PRAYER
Thomas Pearson
The ability to be attentive is a key element in prayer. To be focused
and attuned to the ways God speaks to us is one aspect of prayer.
This Day of reflection will use the work of some modern writers,
poets attentive to nature and attentive to the movements of the
heart. By selective reading and reflection on their poems, we will
allow their attention as poets to foster our own attentiveness in
our life of prayer. Ample time in the day will be devoted to silence,
reflection, and private prayer. Poets will include Hafiz, Denise
Levertov, Mary Oliver, and others.
