about the closing of Saint Joseph Retreat Center.
Dear Friends of St. Joseph Retreat Center,
As you know, many renovations have been made to our retreat center
over the years. Further
improvements were to be implemented as part of our long-range
planning. These included
replacing windows and installing an elevator. However, a severe
structural issue was discovered
upon inspection of our building impelling us to come to a serious
decision. While it is difficult
to bring such a blessed, meaningful ministry to conclusion, we
have made the decision to close
St. Joseph Retreat Center effective July 5, 2016.
Prior to making this decision, we sought the insights and wisdom
of the members of our
congregation. Their views gave us a fuller understanding of the
breadth and depth of their love
and care for this ministry, which is so dear to our CSJ hearts
and heritage. Their realistic
perspective focused on the substantial, financial investment necessary
to correct and upgrade the
extensive structural issues together with the uncertainty and
cost of future staffing.
In the interim, however, we are providing for the essential repairs
that will assure the structural
integrity of the facility until its closing. The process of selling
the property will be undertaken
Needless to say, this has been a heart-wrenching decision because
we are so aware of how
significant St. Joseph Retreat Center has been to so many of you.
You have blessed this sacred
mission and haven of prayer, beauty and welcome as retreatants,
directors, donors, volunteers,
neighbors, staff and co-ministers of prayer in so many ways. You
blessed us as a congregation by
allowing us to welcome you, to serve you and to be in companionship
with you for forty-two
We fully realize that many of you are scheduled to participate
in programs offered this summer
and fall at our Retreat Center. Please be assured that you will
hear from us at a later date and
refunds will be issued to you for any programs you have registered
for at St. Joseph Retreat
As a leadership team, we want to assure you that we remain committed
to our spirituality
ministry and hope to forward it in new and creative ways. We ask
for your continued prayers and
support in these endeavors.
